A student at NYU died after being hit by a drunk driver in the East Village.
Earlier this week, a student at New York University was hit by a drunk driver in the East Village. The student has now died, police said Thursday.
Raife Milligan, 21, was crossing E. Houston St. near First Ave. around 2:45 a.m. Monday when he was hit by a Camaro driven by Michael de Guzman, police say.
Milligan had a very bad head injury. There were medics at the scene, and they took him to Bellevue Hospital. The next day, he died.
He was studying biochemistry at NYU and dreamed of becoming a doctor when he moved to New York City.
“Raife was a one-of-a-kind person.” In a GoFundMe campaign to pay for the funeral of a man who died in a car accident, a family friend said that the man was “brilliant beyond his years.” “Saying that he will be missed is not enough. So many people’s lives were changed by him in a good way.
When Milligan wasn’t studying, he gave food to the old. He also had a love for volleyball.
“He had a deep love for the Beatles, and he has a lot of vinyl records,” Begle said. Because he loved his family so much,
Then, De Guzman hit Milligan, cops say. The 52-year-old driver of a Honda CR-V was in the car at the time. De Guzman, the driver of the CR-V, and two other people were all taken to Bellevue Hospital.
Cops said that De Guzman was drunk when he was driving and hit another car. After a short hearing, he was released without bail. Officials said that none of the charges were bail-able.
